A Winter Holiday Tale

Merry Christmahanakwanzika

Treatment:

WHO - The multi-ethnic/cultural kids of Hui Rd F
WHAT - Try to figure out who's celebrating the proper and correct holiday.
WHERE - Hui Rd. F Maui
WHEN - early to mid '90's.
WHY - It's time for a new Winter Holiday Tale.
HOW - Introduce a new child to the neighborhood. It being the holiday season, talk keeps turning to the celebrations. Everyone, wants to know about the new kids beliefs ("do you eat this?" or "do you do this tradition?") but quickly devolve into explaining their own holiday and why it's the best. Weave the common denominators, first by showing various mores, and the differences. Then tie them together by showing what looks different is really the same.

SECRET - The new kid is an alien, on Winter Holiday Vacation, whose ancestors gave humans the basics for all of our common traits and attributes. Think the Flood, Gilgamesh, Atlantis, etc. Also human propensity for building "new" Myths and Legends around older beliefs. It all starts somewhere, doesn't it?

Any suggestions on how we should handle the holidays with our kids? Actually, it's not my kids I'm concerned about. Malia believes whatever we tell her and I know what I believe. The issue here is grandparents who are getting her Jesus is  the reason for the season books. I need someone to write a book about Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Santa the Solstice and how they are all just fables and traditions with the great lesson to love your family and be grateful. Mace-o is this a task you can take on?
Aloha,
Perrin
